Katie Schweinsberg, Marquette Model of Natural Family Planning
/Straightforward, simple, and authentic NFP education from a registered nurse, serving McHenry and Lake Counties in Illinois and available for nationwide and international remote instruction.
When Katie Schweinsberg and her husband learned Natural Family Planning at the start of their marriage, they found themselves frustrated by the search for the method best suited to their needs. “Marquette Method was a game changer for us,” says Katie, citing the simplicity and objectivity as strengths that have served her marriage well.
Responding to the call she felt to merge her Catholic faith with her healthcare background, Katie became certified to teach the Marquette Method--a distinction only available to healthcare professionals--and share the benefits of NFP with other couples.
Yet Katie knows every method of NFP calls spouses to authentic love. Always with authenticity in mind, she doesn’t hesitate to remind her clients that NFP demands sacrifice, and when embraced, sacrifice is fruitful. “Abstaining, with any NFP method, can be hard,” Katie says. “I like to be realistic about this difficulty with my engaged couples to prepare them of how to use that time to grow in their marriage and why this provides a benefit to their marriages, contrary to our [culture’s messages].”
From Katie:
Being a nurse with passion for healthcare and my faith, I decided I wanted to help other women and couples to learn this method. Only .5% of Catholic couples actually practice NFP. The challenges of confusion and time required to interpret fertile signs doesn’t help that statistic. I feel many couples are torn between living their Catholic faith authentically and living out the struggles of NFP. My goal is for women and couples to feel confident in the method so they can live their marriage and faith in union with God's plan.
